Shining Diamond

River to run thru the Gold Cup

Native River is my bet for the Gold Cup this year 6/1, came 3rd in the Gold Cup last year only just beat 2L before that was creating a big storm winning the Hennessy, The Denman and The Welse Grand National.

Let us not kid we thought this was the Gold Cup winner last year i am sure i read a section from Sean about it when he wrote up on it about the Henny of this ones chances for the Gold Cup and did not let many down if got the odds that was available anti post, little like now i missed most of the odds was high at one point that dropped after Saturday when the market seen this winning by 12L on return to season  winning the Denman a 2nd time in a row, wonder if Traffic Fluide showed up for the Denman that might of sorry had to say it was due to race but was pulled out along with Fountains Windfall making it a 3 horse race but was not a silly race to overlook, the bookie instantly made this joint favorite for the gold cup.

With Tizzard coming to form now i think it is finally time to get back onto his train and ride in the wins from him because i am sure a few on here be tempted to have a small tiny gamble on household favorite Cue Card at 50/1 go on why not?

Native River 6/1

Cue Card 50/1 (for old time sake)

What i am looking at so far not took a bet but these at the current moment how it all stands is what i like the looks of, will say when see weights etc

I like playing for place money, with a chance of actually winning, that is why you might notice the odds are not some of the market leaders because during the build up i look for place value about a week before it all starts i will post up something similar to how Samantha does her ITV lucky bets a Sure thing one and a long shot one for each day

First Flow 25/1

Modus 33/1 - North Hill Harvey 25/1

Champion Hurdle

Ch'Tibello 33/1

Mares Hurdle

Colin's Sister 12/1

Baden 50/1

Special Tiara 16/1

2018 Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup Trends

Friday 16th March - 15:20 - Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup - Grade 1 - 3m2f110y

  • All of the last 16 winners of the race had previously won a Grade 1 contest.

  • 11 of the last 15 winners had all won or finished second at the Festival before.

  • 20 of the last 22 winners were aged between seven and nine.

  • 14 of the last 15 winners started in the top three of the betting, with Lord Windermere bucking the trend in 2014.

  • 9 of the last 16 winners contested the King George VI Chase at Kempton

  • 9 of the last 14 winners did not run before in the same calendar year.

  • 13 of the last 15 winners were rated at 166 or higher.

  • Just one of the last twenty-one winners was aged ten or older.

  • Long Run (2011) was the first six-year old to win since 1963.

  • 15 of the last 17 winners had won earlier in the season.

  • Only 3 winners in just under fifty years has won the race with under six races run over fences (Bobs Worth won in 2013 with five, Coneygree with four in 2015).

  • 12 of the last 24 winners were second season chasers.

  • Coneygree won the race in 2015 as a novice chaser

Kauto Star became the first ever horse to regain the Gold Cup when winning in 2009. Paul Nicholls has saddled four winners and five runners up in the race since 1999. In 2011, Long Run was the first horse to win aged six in 49 years. One of the most alarming stats however is that only Cool Dawn in 1998 won the Gold Cup aged ten in the past eighteen runnings of the race. Second season chasers have a good record in the race. The key trials as ever are the King George VI Chase and the Betfair Chase.

Key Gold Cup Trial Winners

  • Betfair Chase - 1st. Cue Card

  • King George VI Chase - 1st. Thistlecrack
